Community Guidelines

Last updated: 23 September 2026

Offlyn exists to get people off their screens and into rooms together. Everything we build is about making that easier for hosts and safer for the people who show up.

Because Offlyn events happen in the real world, what happens on the app doesn't stay on the app. A misleading event page can put someone in an unsafe place. A leaked phone number can lead to harassment on WhatsApp. So these guidelines cover how you behave on Offlyn and at events organised through it.

They apply to everyone: hosts, co-hosts, attendees, and organisations with Offlyn pages. By using Offlyn, you agree to follow these guidelines along with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. If you break them, we may remove content or events, limit features, suspend or permanently ban accounts, and, where the law requires it, share information with authorities.

1. Treat people with respect

No harassment or bullying. Don't target, intimidate, stalk, or repeatedly contact anyone who hasn't asked to hear from you. That includes flooding someone's DMs after an event, sliding into a guest's WhatsApp after they've said no, or ganging up on someone in event comments.

No threats or violence. Don't threaten, encourage, or celebrate harm against any person or group. Credible threats will be removed and may be reported to the police.

No hate, in any Indian flavour of it. We don't allow content or conduct that demeans, excludes, or incites hostility against people based on religion, caste, tribe, community, region, language, ethnicity, skin colour, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or nationality. This includes casteist slurs and "jokes", communal provocation, mocking someone's accent or mother tongue, and discrimination against people based on where they come from.

A note for hosts: you're welcome to create events for a specific community. What you can't do is exclude or target people in order to demean them, or use "private" events as a cover for hateful gatherings.

Respect consent, always. Don't make unwanted sexual comments, advances, or physical contact, online or at events. "Just joking", "they didn't mind", or "it was a party" are not excuses.

No intimate images without consent. Never share, threaten to share, or create (including via AI or morphing) sexual or nude images of anyone without their clear consent. We treat these reports as urgent and act on them within 24 hours.

Protect children. Any content that sexualises minors is absolutely prohibited and will be reported to the appropriate authorities, including under the POCSO Act. Events aimed at or involving under-18s must be clearly labelled, age-appropriate, and supervised by responsible adults.

Look out for each other's wellbeing. Don't promote, glorify, or encourage suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, or dangerous challenges. If someone in your community seems to be struggling, reach out to them kindly and point them to a helpline such as Tele MANAS (14416).

2. Respect people's privacy

India runs on phone numbers, and phone numbers are personal. Please treat them that way.

Don't dox or expose people. Don't share anyone's phone number, address, workplace, Aadhaar, or other personal details without their permission.

Use guest data only for your event. Hosts can see attendee information to run their events. That access is for managing that event, not for:

  • adding people to unrelated WhatsApp or Telegram groups without asking,
  • selling, renting, or sharing guest lists with brands, sponsors, or other organisers,
  • sending promotional messages, cold calls, or spam that guests didn't sign up for.

Guests trust Offlyn and you with their information, and Indian data protection law (the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023) expects that trust to be honoured.

Ask before you post. Not everyone wants their face online. Before posting photos or videos from an event, especially close-ups, get people's okay. If someone asks you to take down a photo of them, do it.

No hidden recording. Don't secretly record people at events, particularly in private or sensitive settings.

3. Be honest

Your event page is a promise. Describe your event accurately: what it is, where it is, when it starts, what it costs, and who it's for. Don't advertise a "free networking meetup" that's actually a sales pitch, a "startup mixer" that's really a recruitment drive for an MLM, or a "chill house party" that's actually a ticketed commercial event.

Be upfront about money. If there's a cover charge, a minimum spend, a "contribution" collected at the door, or any extra cost, say so clearly on the event page before people RSVP. No surprise charges, no fake "only 2 spots left" urgency, and no hidden conditions. If you offer refunds, honour them as described.

Be who you say you are. Don't impersonate another person, community, brand, venue, or Offlyn itself. Don't claim partnerships, sponsors, or celebrity appearances you don't have.

No scams. This includes fake events designed to collect UPI payments or personal data, "investment" or trading-tip sessions pitching guaranteed returns, crypto and forex schemes, pyramid or chain schemes, fake job or internship offers, and phishing links. If someone asks you to pay outside Offlyn to "confirm your spot" in a way that seems off, report it.

Don't spread harmful misinformation. We'll remove false content that's likely to cause real-world harm: fake health cures, content that could cause panic or violence, or misleading information about elections and voting.

4. Host responsibly

Hosting on Offlyn means people are showing up because they trust you. That comes with some responsibilities.

Know your venue. Make sure the space you're using is appropriate for the number of people you're inviting, and that you have the right to use it. For larger or public gatherings, check whether you need permission from the venue, your RWA or society, or local police.

Plan for safety. Share clear directions and a contact for the day. Think about late-night travel home, especially for women and solo attendees. Know where exits are, don't overcrowd, and have a plan if someone feels unwell or unsafe.

Follow local rules on alcohol. Drinking laws differ from state to state, including the legal drinking age and dry areas or dry days. If alcohol is part of your event, make sure it's legal where you are, that you have any licences required, and that you don't serve anyone underage.

Be a good neighbour. Respect noise limits (in most places, loudspeakers aren't allowed late at night, typically after 10 PM), society rules, and the people living around your venue.

Step in when something's wrong. If a guest is harassing someone, you're expected to act: ask them to stop, ask them to leave, and let us know at contact@offlyn.club.

Keep an eye on your comments and group chats. You're not responsible for everything every guest says, but you are responsible for not letting your event page turn into a space for harassment or hate.

5. Show up well as a guest

RSVP honestly. If you can't make it, update your RSVP. Hosts plan food, space, and budgets around your "yes", and repeated no-shows hurt small community organisers most.

Respect the house rules. Follow reasonable rules the host sets, whether that's no shoes inside, phones away, or a dress code.

Arrive as yourself. Don't bring uninvited plus-ones to events that don't allow them, and don't share private event links publicly.

Look out for others. If you see something that makes someone uncomfortable or unsafe, tell the host or report it to us.

6. Respect the platform

No spam or fake activity. Don't use bots, fake accounts, bought RSVPs, or automated tools to inflate attendance, followers, or engagement. Don't mass-message people or post the same promotional content across events.

Don't mess with Offlyn's systems. Don't try to hack, scrape, overload, or reverse-engineer Offlyn, access accounts that aren't yours, or get around bans and restrictions by creating new accounts.

Keep payments on-platform where they belong. Where Offlyn supports payments, don't push guests to pay through unverified links or personal accounts to avoid our protections.

7. Follow the law

Offlyn is used across India, and hosts and guests are responsible for following all applicable laws, including state and local rules where the event takes place. In particular, don't use Offlyn to organise, promote, or facilitate:

  • Drugs and controlled substances, including selling or distributing anything covered by the NDPS Act.
  • Illegal gambling or betting, including unlicensed card games for money, satta, and betting on sports or other outcomes.
  • Weapons, explosives, or illegal fireworks.
  • Sale of tobacco or alcohol to minors, or any sale of regulated goods without the required licences.
  • Human trafficking, sexual solicitation, or exploitation of any kind.
  • Content that infringes someone else's rights, like using a brand's logo, a photographer's images, or copyrighted music or artwork without permission.
  • Events that break election rules, especially during a Model Code of Conduct period.
  • Any other criminal activity under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act, 2000, or other Indian laws.

8. Reporting and enforcement

How to report. To report an event, profile, comment, or message, email us at contact@offlyn.club. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please call 112 first.

What happens next. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 24 hours and aim to resolve it within 15 days, as required under the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. Reports involving non-consensual intimate images or impersonation are acted on within 24 hours.

What we may do. Depending on how serious the violation is, and whether it's happened before, we may:

  • remove content or an event,
  • issue a warning,
  • restrict features such as hosting, messaging, or payments,
  • temporarily suspend or permanently ban an account,
  • report the matter to law enforcement where required or where someone's safety is at risk.

For serious harm, such as threats of violence, child safety issues, or sexual assault, we may ban an account on the first violation.

Appeals. If you think we got it wrong, reply to our decision email or write to us at contact@offlyn.club within 30 days, and a different member of our team will review it.

A last word

The best Offlyn communities feel like a friend's living room: warm, a little chaotic, and somewhere you'd happily bring someone new. These guidelines are here to protect that feeling. We'll update them as Offlyn and our communities grow, and we'll let you know when we make significant changes.

Questions or suggestions? Write to us at contact@offlyn.club. We read everything.
