About the event
Welcome to Pint of View, Bangalore’s first-ever community where classroom-styled lectures meet drinks in relaxed spaces.
We invest our hard-earned money in companies, trusting their financial statements, their management, their auditors and, ultimately, the markets that regulate them.
But how much of that trust is actually justified?
Are the financial numbers we rely on truly dependable, or can they sometimes be works of fiction? In countries like India, where powerful families control many large businesses, how do we know that the interests of ordinary investors are not secondary to those of promoters? And when things go wrong, who is really responsible for protecting our investments: regulators, auditors, or no one but ourselves?
This lecture explores how investors can look beyond balance sheets and annual reports to identify the warning signs that may not be immediately visible. It is an invitation to question the numbers, understand the risks, and develop the habit of looking for red flags before putting our money at risk.
Because, at the end of the day, the old principle still holds: Caveat Emptor — let the buyer beware.
