The Theme for the Talk
Chemistry:
Title -
We Mirror each other (with a cross on the mirror)
~How your one hand takes over the other~
About the talk -
Many molecules come in two mirror-image forms, like our left and right hands, yet life uses only one of them. We will explore the discoveries of Henri Kagan and Kenso Soai, who showed how a tiny preference for one โhandโ can grow until it takes over completely. We will see how their work improves our understanding of lifeโs handedness and helps chemists build purer molecules for medicines. It was recognised with the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
The Speaker
Lubhanshi Garg is a Research Scholar at the Department of Chemistry, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. Lubhanshi studies how proteins work inside cells and how certain proteins produced by bacteria interfere with the cellโs natural defence and stress-response systems.
