The Theme for the Talk
Trillions of โghost particlesโ called neutrinos pass through our bodies every second, yet they almost never leave a trace. We will explore the story of Francis Halzen, who imagined turning a giant block of Antarctic ice into a detector to catch them. We will explore how the IceCube observatory captured high-energy neutrinos from deep space, opening a new way to see the universe. This work earned the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics.
The Speaker
Dwaipayan Mukherjee is a Research Scholar at the Department of Theoretical Physics, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. Dwaipayan's research includes how neutrinos, tiny particles produced in stars and supernova explosions, interact and change from one type to another.
Beyond research, Dwaipayan is actively involved in science communication and outreach.
