About the event
This workshop invites us all to explore our personal identity through illustration by creating a layered self-portrait. Using tracing paper, we will examine how different forms of privilege and disadvantage shape who we are, how we move through the world and how we are seen by others.
Through this process, we will try to observe how illustration can become a tool for self-reflection, storytelling and social awareness.
Our body and face carry stories of family, class, gender, language, caste, access, exclusion and power. Some of these stories give us comfort and protection. Others create barriers and wounds.
By tracing and re-drawing our own image multiple times, we will visually map these invisible forces.
Each layer represents one aspect of our identity.
Together, they form a complex, honest self-portrait.
Participants must bring a mirror (anything you use at home or can borrow works. Don't use phone camera pls), and pencils, sketches, colours or mixed media as supplies basis your preference. The venue will provide other materials needed for the workshop.
This workshop is free, and open to all.
There are only 20 seats - prior registration is mandatory.
