About the event
Listening to yourself before listening to another.
Meaningful conversation isn't just something that happens naturally. Like any skill, it can be learned and practiced.
The Quiet Talk is a research-inspired social gathering built around that idea.
We begin with a few minutes of quiet reflection to slow down and notice what's present. From there, we'll use thoughtfully designed prompts inspired by psychology—including Arthur Aron's 36 Questions research—to explore ideas, experiences, and questions that go beyond introductions and small talk.
The goal isn't networking, therapy, or meditation.
It's to practice curiosity, attentive listening, and authentic conversation in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
Research suggests that structured, reciprocal self-disclosure and active listening can help strangers build a genuine sense of connection in a surprisingly short time. This is a simple experiment in practicing those skills together.
