About the event
An immersive play about a marriage coming apart, followed by conversation, insights & a mixer - Dead on Arrival
Some things said at a party follow you home. Some silences last eight years. Some conversations arrive too late.
Dead on Arrival is a play about what happens inside a long marriage when two people stop hearing each other. Not all at once, but slowly, in the ordinary, everyday moments without even realizing it.
Written by Akaash Jayaram, this is not a story about a dramatic collapse. It is about the other kind - that looks, from the outside, like everything is fine.
TL;DR
If you've witnessed an unraveling marriage and had an opinion about it, this one is probably for you. This evening, we bear witness to a modern relationship falling apart.
Why? How?
We explore that through this hour. And after the final curtain, we sit and reflect. "What would I do in their shoes?" We talk about our experience of witnessing marriages come apart - with care and compassion, not judgement.
What You Will Observe
You will observe a conversation between a couple on one night in Bengaluru. Two people. One conversation - eight years in the making.
You will hear what he said, what she heard, and what neither of them said at all.
You will meet Minu. Not at a moment of crisis, but at the moment just before one, when a person stops waiting for a better time to come and decides to make one.
This is a play about the words we say and the ones we can never take back.
Why MDG Is Bringing You This
At MDG, we work with people navigating separation and divorce every day. What we observe daily is this: most transitions do not begin with a legal filing. They begin with a feeling that something has gone away and no one is willing to acknowledge it.
Dead on Arrival puts that feeling on stage. It gives the feeling a name. And in doing so, it makes space for conversations that many people have never been able to start.
It is theatre and does what the best theatre does - show you something true about yourself.
After
After the play, we sit with what we witnessed and have a conversation about our insights and what we're leaving with.
