About the event
A little context first
We like to believe our preferences are personal. But what we find beautiful, desirable, or prestigious is often shaped by culture, advertising, social circles, and trends. How much of what we like comes from within us, and how much have we learned to like?
Side A: Our taste is shaped more by society than we realise
What we consider attractive, fashionable, or high-quality is influenced by the people we admire, the culture we grow up in, and what society rewards. Trends can make us desire things we previously ignored, while status and social approval shape our preferences without us noticing. We don't just discover what we like; we're taught what is worth liking.
Side B: Our preferences are genuinely our own
Social influence shapes our choices, but it doesn't determine them. People resist trends, develop unconventional tastes, and value things their communities overlook. We interpret outside influences through our own experiences, values, and personalities. Having our preferences shaped by the world doesn't make them any less authentic.

------------
Thinkers' Club is a space for people who are deep thinkers and enjoy reading and better conversations.
We started it because it’s surprisingly hard to find people who want to go beyond small talk, people who enjoy exploring ideas, challenging assumptions, and hearing perspectives different from their own.
We host debate and discussion sessions around topics spanning technology, AI, business, health, society, philosophy and human behavior and more..
No speakers or lectures. Just a small group that want to find their intellectual friend circle.
How to join: Register for the event below. Since we keep these discussions small, spots are limited.
P.S. Please only register if you're sure of attending!
