Before the pixels

Paper prototyping, scenario building, day-in-the-life mapping, scale modelling — new product development processes use all these hands-on methods (and more).

But how often do you get to do these when building something on your own?

This Friday, set aside two quiet hours to make. We'll have paper, markers, scissors, sticky notes, and other supplies ready for you. Make the first pass.

What you can do in the two hours:

• Build a lo-fi prototype with paper for digital products,
• Create character-rich scenarios for building the context of use for your product or service concepts, or
• Create an archetypical day-in-the-life-of map by synthesizing your user research data.

Making is a way of thinking. A tangible lo-fi prototype made with your hands refines the concept without getting sucked into all the features design softwares offer.

There is time and place for that, but if you want to dedicate some time to make with tools as simple as markers, scissors, and paper, come this Friday.

Please note that this is not a workshop; as always Eleven AM Club are self-directed gatherings that allow you to experiment, make mistakes, and build a few versions until your ideas become clearer.

About the Host

Having done their masters in product development from Carnegie Mellon University and with an undergraduate degree in architecture, Anne Milan, the founder of Eleven AM Club is a big proponent of prototyping. Creation over consumption and not getting attached to the multiple initial ideas is something they strongly believe in.
