About the event
Welcome to Pint of View – Bangalore's first-ever community where classroom-styled lectures meet drinks in pubs and bars.
About the Lecture
Why are we so fascinated by automobiles? Why has the love for cars and two-wheelers become such a widespread hobby across the world, and what keeps it alive?
This lecture turns to Bangalore to trace the evolution of automobile culture in the city. Starting at MG Road, the heart of Bangalore, it moves outwards through the many ways automobiles have shaped the city.
We’ll travel through the arrival of cars and two-wheelers, the rise of automotive racing, state celebrations, the evolution of the automobile industry in Bangalore and its environs, and the story of public transport.
Then come the thrills and spills of restoration and driving: the hunt for elusive parts, impossible restoration attempts, and hilarious personal mishaps, thankfully not too serious.
There will be a deep dive into the evolution of Karnataka’s vehicle registration system, before the lecture heads out onto the open road. Because, in the speaker’s estimation, there is no better test of an old vehicle’s restoration than a long-distance drive.
The lecture ends by looking at the challenges and opportunities facing the hobby, and how it is evolving to suit a younger generation.
