About the event
Welcome to Pint of View, Bangalore’s first-ever community where classroom-styled lectures meet drinks in relaxed spaces.
We are a film-crazy nation. Some of the easiest conversations with strangers begin over a film or a film star. Everyone has opinions, favourites, loyalties, hot takes, and most of the time, just gossip. As fans we often say that movies are getting longer, the industry is running out of ideas, audiences don’t go to theatres anymore, everything is a remake, and that actresses have a shelf life.
What happens when those opinions are tested against the data?
Bollywood and India’s regional cinema together produce over a thousand movies a year, leaving behind a rich trail of data. Over the last few years, Surbhi has followed these data trails. Her fascination has led to this commentary on the economics of Hindi cinema through visual stories. Expect charts, analysis, and a few plot twists on box-office dynamics, production budgets, film posters, remake culture, representation, changing audience preferences, the rise and fall of women-led films, and the changing shape of romance on screen.
This is but a teaser. As the saying goes, picture abhi baaki hai…Come see Bollywood through the lens of data!
