About the event
Pint of View is in Kolkata at last. πΊ
For months, Pint of View has been taking big ideas out of auditoriums and into pubs, creating a space where difficult questions, fascinating stories, and curious people can meet over a drink.
About the Lecture
Why do groups fail to act together, even when their interests align?
This lecture explores the hidden dynamics of human coordination, from small teams to entire nations, and why breakdowns are more common than we assume. Drawing on behavioral science, geopolitics, and the study of complex systems, it looks at how trust, emotional bonds, and misaligned incentives shape collective action.
The talk unfolds in three parts.
It begins with the foundations of coordination, examining the psychological and structural conditions that allow individuals and groups to move in sync.
It then shifts to the geopolitics of emotional bonding, exploring how identity, belonging, and narrative influence decisions at national and global scales.
Finally, through case studies from regions such as Iran and India, it traces how coordination failures appear in the real world and what they reveal about emerging global patterns.
By the end, you will have a clearer understanding of why coordination breaks down even among actors who seem aligned, how emotions and identity quietly drive large-scale decisions.
About the Speaker
Dr. Raul V. Rodriguez focuses on a critical & increasingly urgent problem: how to empirically measure and understand the ways in which minds, institutions, and societies fail or thrive under conditions of overload, AI pressure, and leadership stress.
His research is driven by a unifying question across domains such as elections, markets, organizations, and infrastructure systems: how intelligence and rationality can be formally modeled before the conditions that sustain them begin to degrade.
As Vice President of Woxsen University and Sir Cary Cooper Professor of Organizational Behaviour, he combines direct institutional engagement with his work as a computational social scientist modeling systemic instability.
