This Is What Shoes-Off, Phone-Down Actually Looks Like
India’s biggest picnic rave happened in Bengaluru: 200+ people, all in yellow, one Sunday morning on the grass.

On Sunday, 27 September, more than 200 people in yellow gathered on a lawn in Mahadevapura, Bengaluru, for the third edition of the Picnic Rave by Kaunversations, billed as India’s biggest picnic rave.
It was a sober, outdoor daytime event with music, food, art workshops, games and a lot of dancing on the grass. If you missed it, this is what your weekend could have looked like.

Picnic blankets laid out in patches across the green.
A DJ set up on the grass.
Paints, canvases and colours within reach.
Dogs running between the blankets.
A soft breeze, and for a few hours, the rush of the week had stopped.
A hundred-plus people, all in yellow and sunshine, living in the moment.
Here’s a glimpse. Our galleries are full, so this is only a small dump.

Bachpan ke games, Mischief was the theme
Hopscotch. Musical chairs. The games you last played in school came back, and nobody was too cool to join. There was nothing to be good at, which is exactly why it worked: A day for us to become kids and bring mischief once again!
Busy hands: paint, clay and bracelets
There were canvases and colours for painting, clay-dough to shape, bubbles drifting over the blankets and bracelets being strung one bead at a time. Between the dancing, there was always something to make.

And a sign at the activity corner put it best:
“Only valid reason to pick up your phone is to take pictures of your cute creations.”

A DJ on the grass
The music ran all morning, with a DJ set up on the lawn. It was a rave in daylight: no dark room, no queue, no alcohol, just a sound system, a patch of green and people dancing barefoot on it. The food and drinks kept coming, and the dogs treated the dance floor as their own.

Why daytime, sober, outdoor events are catching on
This is our reading, not a study. The Picnic Rave had no dark room, no late night and no pressure to drink, and people showed up anyway. It sits in the same space as other daytime events we see on Offlyn: weekend morning activities, art and craft workshops, outdoor meetups. They’re easier to say yes to, easier to bring friends, family or pets to, and they leave you with the rest of your Sunday.
For many people in Bangalore, the best plan right now is one you can slow down in.
